Companionship

December 28, 2015

Companionship comes in many forms, from best friends, spouses, co-workers to animals.

I wish to speak of my companions, they have four legs, fur and speak in ways that are foreign to me for the most part, but their body movements, looks and manners speak clearly. My companions are a cat and a dog. Both came to me thru rescue from a live that is still a mystery to me but they came to me for a reason.

The dog came first sneaking in the house through an open door one rainy night, a pup no more than six months old, dirty, covered with ticks. After cleaning him up and giving some water he bonded with me quickly, him to me! It took some time for me to get used to having a dog and the road was not always smooth, but he persisted in wanting to be my companion and he won! He was named Red, not fancy, but simple and quick!

The cat, also a rescue, was found one night as I was attempting to leave work. A kitten no more than eight weeks old found lodged inside an engine compartment of a PT Cruiser, after one of the company’s mechanics freed him, he was handed to me because I was the Supervisor and I knew what to do. I took him home in a box punched with holes, scared, dirty and covered in fleas.

That night when I got home the dog met the cat and a friendship began which led to a companionship for all concerned, them, me and us! After getting the kitten cleaned and checked he is here to stay also! He was named Cruiser for the vehicle he was saved from!

Now some close to eight years later three old men share a home and companionship. There have been many days that I say a thank you to God for bringing them to me and me to them! I sometimes call them brothers and they seem to know they are brothers from another mother!

When I think I’m ready to give up because of a bad day (perceived or real) they find a way to show their companionship, fondness and love to me and bring forth the smile that was hidden because of that earlier day.

If you are so blessed or lucky to have a four legged companion, say thanks to them for being with you as I do each day they bring the smile out of me. My companions are here to stay for we all make this a forever home! Thank You to God for bringing them my way!!1PSV8533.jpg Taking a stroll together and headed my way! What a crew!
